Southern Pinot Noir Workshop 2013

Every year, 100 Pinot Noir winemakers from NZ’s South Island get together to talk Pinot. This isn’t the usual wine buff type talk of “scents of wild raspberries on a warm summer’s evening…” that you’ve heard a million times before. No, this is the real technical nitty gritty. Over the course of 4 days, the winemakers blind taste 100 trial or interesting wines, tank samples, faulty batches, experiments, critique them and then discuss them. The idea is that everyone in the room shares their experiences and everyone learns from them. If one producer has had problems with a particular fault, other producers can make suggestions about how to solve it. If one producer is experimenting with stems in the ferment, others will discuss their experiences – what worked and what didn’t. I truly believe this is one of the reasons that NZ Pinot Noir has improved in quality so quickly. Nautilus has been a regular participant since 1999 and we find it invaluable. This year, Brett and Mike will be attending so watch out for their update here soon. Start Date: 2013-01-22 End Date: 2013-01-25
